music, lost and found
Well, how did I get here?
ESCAPING THE ECHO CHAMBER
If you’ve ever grown tired of something you love, I can sympathise.
I challenge anyone to drive for up to three hours a day, every single weekday, up and down the M1
without feeling at least a little fatigue and exhaustion. But tiring of your favourite bands and songs is a
much scarier feeling.
After just three days of motorway commuting in 2024, I had the audacity to skip past my oft-cited
favourite song of all time (Tears For Fears’ The Working Hour). ‘Nothing wrong with that?’ I hear you think.
Of course not, sometimes we’re not in the mood for something we love. But this was much more than
that.
I had grown antagonised by the gorgeous saxophone intro, annoyed by Roland Orzabal’s luxurious
opening lines, and completely and utterly fed up of everything I was hearing from the dynamic duo.
I wasn’t sure what the solution was, but I was certain that I needed one.
